The state-of-the-art Imperial College London Diabetes Centre opened its doors to diabetes patients in Abu Dhabi in the summer of 2006, with the installation of Hicom’s Diamond software as a fully integrated health centre management system. Over the past 11 years, ICLDC has expanded its operation to three sites across the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and now supports in excess of 1,000 patient appointments each day.
Established in a partnership by Mubadala Development Company and Imperial College London, ICLDC in Abu Dhabi is the leading diabetes resource in the region.
The centre provides the highest level of specialised patient care in a multi-disciplinary environment from screening and initial diagnosis to the management of all the complications associated with diabetes. To achieve this, ICLDC is equipped with the latest diagnostic and management facilities supported by a world-class multi-specialty healthcare team.
Through the integration of patient medical management, investigation, education, treatment and care planning, Diamond enables healthcare professionals at ICLDC to make informed decisions based on accurate and timely information.
Research conducted at ICLDC encompasses epidemiological, basic, clinical and genetic research focussing on diabetes in the UAE. One of ICLDC’s leading priorities is to provide continuing education for health professionals and the general public on their mission to understand, tackle and prevent diabetes.
The UK’s leading diabetes clinical information system, Diamond, was chosen by ICLDC to help manage patient care, integrating seamlessly with ICLDC’s patient and clinical workflows, interfacing with a wide range of medical diagnosis devices to provide real-time access to critical clinical information at the point of patient care.
Diamond was designed to support care in a paperless environment and it uses smartcards to accurately manage and track patient movements within each of the clinics locations. From the point of arrival at the reception desk to the moment of departure, information on a patient’s care is captured electronically without paper or transcription.
To achieve this, Diamond manages the entire patient workflow from scheduling and appointment management through to patient departure and captures data directly from a wide range of medical diagnostic devices.
Every aspect of a patient’s diagnosis and care is controlled by Diamond including; support for predefined and tailored clinical care pathways, diagnosis recording, order management, medication management, electronic prescribing, pathology lab management (via Diamond’s integrated lab management module), results reporting and verification, quality control and pharmacy dispensing (via Diamond’s integrated pharmacy management module).
In addition to the support provided to the healthcare team, Diamond is used to manage patient billing and electronic claims management whilst incorporating facilities for the management of the entire revenue lifecycle.
ICLDC make the quality of patient care their number one priority and Diamond helps ensure that key operational performance indicators and clinical quality control measures are available at the press of a button to support the highest quality of patient care delivery. Diamond also supports ICLDC’s JCI accreditation by ensuring compliance with the various requirements and providing the management team with accurate data on patient and operational performance.
